Tips for C section recovery

Most women prefer natural births to the alternative, C Section. However, some soon-to-be mothers do not get the choice and have to undergo this major surgery out of safety and medical concerns. Recovering from a C Section involves both physical and psychological healing, as both the trauma the body has undergone, and for some the emotional dissapointment of not being able to give birth vaginally, can be large. Being knowledgeble about the side-effect, and having reasonable expectations to the C Section recovery time can be a great help:

- Face the fact and give your self some slack: Fact is, you have just been through heavy surgery. Give your self some slack, you need time to recover!
- Slow down from your normal tempo and responsibilities, the house, kids and husband/boyfriend will do just fine on their own while you rest.
- If you feel depresed, it is important that you talk to someone, family, spouse, friends. You might want to contact a support group or therapist if the depression is severe.
- Coping with pregnancy related issues like C section recovery can be a lighter on the spirit if you know what to expect, and how other have handled it. Do a search online, or buy a book, to read other mother’s stories.
- Try to get up of bed and take short walks as early as possible. Many say this has helped their recovery, even though it can be difficult at first. Ask your doctor or nurse about when you can start walking, and for how long.
- Ask for help: Call your doctor if you have any questions about your physical condition or if you feel you aren’t seeing the progress you should.
- Ask your doctor for a referral to a Physical Therapist if you are feeling if you are feeling pulling in the scar or (as mentioned above) you feel recovery is taking longer then expected.
