So as the new year comes around, so does the new years resolutions. The biggest resolution that people make is to lose weight and get in shape. This is an important thing to do and you can see why so many people try and do it. The problem is though that before January is even over, most people will have given up on it and went back to their normal lifestyle.

This is where the key lies. . . their normal lifestyle. If you don’t make eating less and exercising more, part of your lifestyle, you will fail. It happens every year and most likely every day. Let me say something that you undoubtedly already know, “diets do not work”, at least not long term. They never have and never will work long term.

If they did, then there wouldn’t be a new one popping up every week or so. If they worked, people would just implement the diet that is touted to be the one that will finally give you the body that you desire, and that would be the end of it.

But as you know, they don’t work, or should I say that people do not stick with them long enough for them to work. For anything to work in the long term, it has to be something that you don’t need amazing will power just to stick with. If you can find a way to naturally eat less and exercise more, than your dieting troubles are over and your belly fat will be a distant memory.

So of all the things that are important to get in shape, the most important one is to eat less. Your diet is far more important than exercise, although you should exercise also for numerous other reasons as well as a supplement to eating less. There are tons of overweight people in gyms all across the world and not all of them are beginners. A lot have been exercising for years and still have a spare tire or excess fat on other areas of their body.

So knowing this, you would assume that they have the exercise part of the equation down. The problem is that they are still eating far too many calories each day and that is why they are not losing weight. To be honest, most people do not exercise correctly to lose weight either, but that will a topic of another article.

Nonetheless, if they control their eating, they will make far more progress no matter what type of exercising that they do. There are numerous ways to eat less each day including eating less at each meal, eating less meals, cutting down on snacks, etc. It doesn’t have to be a wholesale change to your entire eating habits. If it’s too much of a change, your body will fight you on it every step of the way and you will eventually give in. That is why you start a diet, do good for a while only to get off track and then finally give up. Then after a while do it all over again, hence the yo-yo diet.

Well, I’m no stranger to this and actually did this myself for years. I finally decided to try something new and see how my body would respond. I found that the easiest and best way to limit my calories was from intermittent fasting. It is more natural and lets you continue to eat the same foods that you normally do each week. If you haven’t tried this approach before, I suggest that you check it out and see how simple weight loss can be. For exercising, I found that resistance training, especially high intensity circuit training is the best way to lose fat while keeping the muscle.
